How To Build Muscle Fast

Looking back now, I can't believe I was ever so skinny.

It was in that moment that I decided to change. I no longer wanted to be the small guy. Instead I wanted to become one of the strong muscular guys.

Over the next 12 months, I packed on over 55 pounds (25kg) of lean, beautiful muscle. Now I am the go to guy for all my friends for advice on how to get buff fast.

I always tell them the same things:

1. If you want to get big, then you have eat big. If you are as skinny as I was and you want to get buff, then you have to understand right now that a lot of your results are going to simply come down to what you eat.

You can train as hard as you like, but you are not going to get that chiselled, jacked look unless you eat 3,500 + calories of good foods each day. It's as simple as that. Eat lots of brown rice, tuna, chicken, brown bread, veggies, steaks, protein shakes. Aim for a split of 40% protein, 40% Carbs and 20% good fatsover 6-7 meals per day. My progress, energy and strength grew fast when I started to eat right.

2. Get a proper workout routine and stayed committed to it. I saw so many guys at the gym doing the same exercises or not making much progress. Whilst I kept adding extra weight and looking better every time I went to the gym. This was because most guys never get a real workout routine organized, or they keep switching their routines before they see any real progress. It's very disappointing to look back over a year's worth of training and see no progress.

3. When you arrive at the gym- make it count. Avoid all distractions- talking to mates, large water breaks etc and get focused on what you are there for. You are in the gym for 1 reason only- that is to get buff really quickly! There is plenty of time to socialize before and after a workout, but when you are in the zone, really make it worthwhile. Always aim to do better than your last workout. Pushing yourself to the extreme in every exercise and set.

4. Use supplements to your diet. Supplements are by no means a super product but some like creatine, whey protein powder and multi vitamins can be that extra 10 percent boost. Supplements are a great addition when you have your diet and workouts on check.

OK, if you follow that advice you will be able to pack on lean muscle in no time and change your body from skinny to strong.

It's now time to make a decision. Everyone always talks about how they want to get buff and look great but very few people actually do anything about it.

Special Education Law Blog: Breaking News: Transition- GAO Study ...

One of the most important areas of the federal special education law is transition.? Transition generally means what happens to a special ed student after they leave school.

The GAO study finds inadequate coordination among the federal agencies charged with duties related to transition.? You can see a summary of the highlights of the study here.? Or here you can review the 71 page official report.

The following is a very brief summary of the law regarding transition:

The IDEA defines transition services as a coordinated set of activities designed to be a results oriented process that focuses upon the individual child?s needs, strengths and preferences.? IDEA, ? 602 (34).? Not later than the first IEP to be in effect when the child is 16 years old and each year thereafter, the IDEA requires that the IEP contain measurable postsecondary goals; the transition services needed to achieve those goals; and beginning at one year before the child reaches the age of majority, a statement that the student has been informed regarding transfer of rights.? IDEA ? 614 (d)(1)(A)(i)(VIII).? 34 C.F.R. ? 300.43, 300.320(b)

Activists: Fighting is spreading in Syria's Aleppo

BEIRUT (AP) ? Activists say fighting in Aleppo has spread to new areas as rebels try to expand their hold inside Syria's largest city.

Despite intense bombardment from government warplanes, helicopters and artillery, the rebels in Aleppo have now withstood two weeks of counterattacks by President Bashar Assad's troops and are clawing toward the city center.

Local activist Tamam Hazem says fierce clashes are going on in Bab Jnein and Sabee Bahrat districts near the heart of Aleppo. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also says fighting Tuesday has extended to new parts of the city.

Aleppo is Syria's commercial hub and lies close to the Turkish border, where rebels have their rear bases. If the opposition were to gain control of Aleppo, it would be a major blow to the regime.

J&J, Pfizer to drop intravenous Alzheimer's drug

NEW YORK (AP) ? Pfizer Inc. and Johnson & Johnson said Monday they are ending development of an intravenous formulation of a drug to treat Alzheimer's disease after the treatment failed in two late-stage clinical trials.

The companies said bapineuzumab intravenous did not work better than placebo in two late-stage trials in patients who had mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease.

The drug is designed to prevent the buildup of plaque in the brain. J&J said it is not discontinuing development of the compound and noted it has ongoing studies including a mid-stage neuroimaging study with bapineuzumab delivered subcutaneously.

Johnson & Johnson made a big bet on bapineuzumab in 2009, agreeing to invest up to $1.5 billion initially. The two companies said July 23 that the drug had failed in a different trial.

Johnson & Johnson, based in New Brunswick, N.J., said it will take a charge of $300 million to $400 million in the third quarter.

Dublin-based Elan Corp. PLC, which licensed the drug to Johnson & Johnson in 2009, said it will take a $117.3 million charge of its own.

U.S.-traded shares of Elan lost 10 percent, or $1.34, to $11.91 in after-hours trading. Shares of New York-based Pfizer lost 2.7 percent, or 66 cents, to $23.60. Johnson & Johnson stock edged down by 84 cents, or 1.2 percent, to $68.

Current treatments for Alzheimer's can only temporarily ease symptoms of the disease, which include increasing memory loss, confusion, wandering and aggression.

In the latest trial, bapineuzumab was tested on about 1,300 patients who lacked a gene that is associated with a greater risk of Alzheimer's. Last month the companies said the drug also didn't work on patients who do have that gene. Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson were running two other late-stage trials as part of a very large testing program for the drug.

Worldwide, about 35 million people already have dementia, of which Alzheimer's is the most common type. In the U.S., about 5 million have Alzheimer's. Finding a drug that could at least slow the disease has become a sort of Holy Grail in the pharmaceutical industry. A successful medicine would be guaranteed to generate billions in annual sales, given the world's aging population.

Rethinking the robot hand at Harvard (video)

Image

Should you ever find yourself needing to discuss the state of the robotic hand in the early 21st century, Harvard professor Robert Howe seems about as good a place to start as any. The professor founded the school's BioRobotics Laboratory in 1990 and has devoted a good deal of his time to the quest for perfect robot extremities. The last few years have seen a number of breakthroughs for Howe and his team including, notably, the SDM (Shape Deposit Manufacturing) hand, an adaptable and rugged robot gripper that utilizes a single motor to manipulate its eight joints. Such machines have, in the past, often relied on precise image sensing to determine the exact size and shape of an object, in order to configure their digits perfectly before attempting to pick it up. The SDM hand is a lot more forgiving. The pulley system at play distributes equal tension to the fingers in an adaptive transmission that allows motion to continue in other fingers, should one's movement be hampered.

The joints themselves are extremely compliant as well, adapting and conforming to the shape of an object, thanks in part to their ability to pivot in three dimensions. The Shape Deposit Manufacturing technology used to create the fingers, meanwhile, adds an important level of durability, letting Howe bang them against a table (a trick he happily performed for us) and expose them to water -- both features that are quite often absent in more complex (and far more expensive) models. The SDM technology, developed at Stanford, allows for the creation of fingers that are a single piece, with their parts embedded in plastic. The larger model shown off by Howe serves as great visual when describing the benefits of the single motor system, but the team has also developed a smaller version, with the requisite motors embedded in a far more compact chassis, which we also got a peek at.

The hand will likely be targeted at home and office use, with some key applications for assisting the disabled. Check out a video of Howe describing the technology to us during our visit to the school and a clip of the SDM doing its thing in the labs, which should help feed your desire to watch robot hands get banged by hammers.

Richard's Real Estate and Urban Economics Blog: Who should be ...

At some point, once the unemployment rate really starts to fall, the US needs to get on a steady-state path to deficit reduction. ?A question worth asking is what part of the income distribution should contribute to this reduction. ?Certainly the one percent should make the major contribution, but it is hard to see how it can close the gap by itself.

The current budget deficit is about $1.3 trillion. ?According to IRS SOI data for 2009 (the most recent available), households in the top one percent paid income taxes of $318 billion in that year (see Table 5). ?Because that was an anomalous year, let's go back to 2007, when the top one percent paid the most is had paid under current law, which was $451 billion. If we adjust that for five years of CPI growth, that translates to about $497 billion in current dollars. ?This means that doubling taxes on the top one percent would get us less than halfway toward closing the budget gap.

Of course, lower unemployment will mean less money going to unemployment insurance, and will add to the number of taxpayers, and these will help reduce the deficit. ?But the taxing the one percent alone will not be enough--so how low do we go? ?I would certainly hold the bottom two quintiles harmless--whatever mix of tax and spending changes come along, that group should be left no worse off than before (because they received no net benefit from the policies of the past decade or so). ?How one divides it up among the rest? ?I am not sure.

Tropical Storm Ernesto spinning near Jamaica

MIAMI (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Ernesto kept on a westerly course in the Caribbean Sea on Sunday, and was expected to strengthen slowly over the next 48 hours, soaking Jamaica as it passes the island on its way to the Yucatan, U.S. forecasters said.

Tropical storm conditions were expected to reach Jamaica by Sunday afternoon, and tropical storm conditions were possible along the coast of Honduras by late Monday, the National Hurricane Center said.

Ernesto was following a predicted track that should keep it at sea until a forecast landfall, possibly at hurricane strength, over Mexico's Yucatan peninsula on Wednesday.

The storm was 215 miles (345 km) southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, around 8 a.m. EDT on Sunday, with maximum sustained winds weakening somewhat to 50 mph (85 kph),

Heavy rains were expected throughout Sunday in Hispaniola and Puerto Rico. Three to 6 inches (7.6 to 15.2 cm) were expected in Jamaica. Showers and thunderstorms - sometimes severe - were possible on the islands of Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire off Venezuela's northern coast.

"Ernesto is forecast to become a hurricane in the northwestern Caribbean in a day or two," the U.S. forecasters in Miami said.

Ernesto would be deemed a hurricane if its winds reach 74 mph (119 kph).

Forecasters expect Ernesto to move into the southern Gulf of Mexico by Thursday but it was too early to know whether it could disrupt oil and gas operations in the gulf.

U.S. National Hurricane Center forecasters said another tropical storm, called Florence, formed on Saturday in the eastern Atlantic and was moving west in open waters. As of early Sunday, forecasters said, Florence was about 680 miles (1,090 km) west of the Cape Verde Islands.

With maximum sustained winds of 60 mph (95 kph), Florence was the sixth named storm of the Atlantic-Caribbean hurricane season, moving west-northwest at 15 mph (24 kph). Some strengthening was expected over the next day or two.

August and September are usually the most active months of the Atlantic-Caribbean hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30. (Editing by Jon Hemming and Vicki Allen)

Supreme Court Petitioned to Review Genocide Insurance Case ...

The US Supreme Court

Attorneys General of California, Michigan, Nevada, and Rhode Island and Several Federal and State Legislators Also File Amicus Briefs in Support of Armenian American Property Claims

WASHINGTON?The Armenian National Committee of America joined an amicus brief this week to uphold a California law that protects the property rights of Armenian Americans, who were denied life insurance benefits during and after the Armenian Genocide.

The filing follows a long and complex legal history that has included three separate and conflicting opinions from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the most recent on February 23, 2012, striking down the California statute, based on an unprecedented expansion of the rarely invoked doctrine of foreign affairs field preemption.? In its ruling, the Ninth Circuit invalidated the California law extending the statute of limitations for certain life insurance claims, because Turkey opposes references to the Armenian Genocide and the use of the term.

Kate Nahapetian, Government Affairs Director of the ANCA, stated ?We want to express our deep appreciation to the Attorney General of California Kamala Harris and Attorneys General Masto, Kilmartin and Schuette for joining in our fight for justice.? We also want to thank all the federal and state legislators who filed an amicus brief and all the attorneys, who have given so generously of their time free of charge.? We are confident that we will prevail in our fight against Munich Re, as they continue to aid and abet Turkey?s campaign of genocide denial.?

The ANCA joined the amicus brief in support of plaintiffs? appeal to the Supreme Court, along with the Armenian Bar Association, Zoryan Institute for Contemporary Armenian Research and Documentation, Inc., Genocide Education Project, Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action, Center for the Study of Law & Genocide, and the International Human Rights Clinic of the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.? The team of lawyers from the law firm of Bingham McCutchen, led by partner David Balabanian, who have generously been offering free legal representation on this case for several years, filed the brief.

Appellate attorney and former Supreme Court clerk Igor Timofeyev of the law firm Paul Hastings filed the original appeal to the Supreme Court on behalf of plaintiffs in June 2012, urging the Court to overturn the Ninth Circuit?s recent en banc ruling.? Parties interested in supporting plaintiffs? appeal had until August 1, 2012 to file their amicus briefs.

Other parties supporting plaintiffs? appeal were California Attorney General Kamala Harris, who was joined by Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, and Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin.? Attorneys General Masto and Kilmartin had also joined Attorney General Harris on a previous amicus brief, when it was before the Ninth Circuit.? Leading up to the filing, the ANCA had organized a citizen campaign to engage Attorneys General from across the country about the importance of this case and defending Armenian American property claims.

A third amicus brief was filed by several federal and state legislators, including Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-CA), who was a lead author of the California statute at issue when she was a California State Senator, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Howard Berman (D-CA), Representatives David Cicilline (D-RI), Anna Eshoo (D-CA), Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Ed Royce (R-CA), Adam Schiff (D-CA), and Brad Sherman (D-CA).? Members of the legislature of the State of California who joined the brief were Senate President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg, Majority Leader of the Assembly Charles Calderon (D-58), Senator Kevin de Le?n (D-22), Assembly Members Katcho Achadjian (R-33) and Anthony Portantino (D-44).

Congressman Berman, explaining his support for the brief stated, ?I stand by the Armenian-American community in their quest for justice.?

The law firm of Snell & Wilmer led by partner Mary-Christine Sungaila and attorney Seepan Parseghian provided generous pro bono assistance for the filing of the legislators? brief.

Armenian Bar Association Chairman Garo Ghazarian stated, ?The Armenian Bar Association thanks our first Chairman David Balabanian, the Bingham law firm, ANCA and our other partners for having put together a strong brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a decision that parted ways with basic precedent and our nation?s fundamental approach to state sovereignty and redress for injustice. Our collective resolve is at an all time high in our pursuit of proper application of the law in this case and beyond.?

Balabanian explained,?? ?We are asking the Supreme Court to grant a hearing and either reverse the Ninth Circuit outright or direct it to reconsider its ruling in light of the Supreme Court?s recent Arizona immigration law decision, with which the Ninth Circuit?s ruling directly conflicts.?

Leading up to the filing of the amicus briefs, the ANCA secured the support of and coordinated a team of attorneys, who provided assistance and guidance in the case.? The ANCA also organized a meeting with the U.S. State Department?s Legal Advisor Harold Koh to discuss the case.

The Ninth Circuit case Movsesian v. Versicherung AG involves life insurance claims dating from the Armenian Genocide era. In 2000, California passed a law, which extended the statute of limitations for life insurance claims that were never paid out, in some cases because insurance companies insisted heirs produce death certificates of relatives, who were murdered during the Armenian Genocide, before honoring the policies.? Defendant Munich Re, a German insurance company, which is represented by Neil Soltman of Mayer Brown has been joined by the Republic of Turkey in its attempts to strike down California?s law, claiming it is unconstitutional for states to reference the Armenian Genocide.

Claims for unpaid life insurance policies dating back to the Armenian Genocide were first brought by plaintiff?s attorney Vartkes Yeghiayan. Attorneys who have been representing plaintiffs include Mark Geragos, Brian Kabateck, and Lee Crawford Boyd.
